First, a little background story...

When I first started out writing music I knew I wanted to compose music for film and video games. When I was about 22 years old I wrote an admission required essay to Berklee College of Music (which I still have!), received an acceptance letter (Which I still have!), but due some fundamental flaws in my decision making I never actually ended up attending Berklee College of Music. I did, however, move to Boston anyway in 2002 where I started my own independent self study of music composition. The rest is history.

Rewind --- I was around 20 years old (circa 2001) when I first started out "producing" music on my own which consisted none other than dragging and dropping loops from Acid Pro sample libraries into Acid Pro DAW and seeing what I could come up with. I would further embellish my arrangements with sound effects, such as screams, horse neighs and hoof sounds, doors creaking, thunder and rain, so on and so forth, to create a cinematic experience.

I remember sometime in 2003 when I first moved to Boston I was contacted by a student film group who requested to use this music in one of their student films. I had the privilege of going to Tufts University to watch the video premiere in the auditorium. I have a copy of the video burned to disc which I will upload to my personal website.

Here is an examples of what I made 24 years ago!

Here's another example of a piece of music I created utilizing very few sample packs loops and instead relying on my own developing compositional skills. I did add sound effects to this piece as well to create a cinematic experience. This piece was created around the same time period as Amnion utilizing Acid Pro and an EQUINOX workstation keyboard.

Lastly, one other I'd like to share called Into The Fray - Banished. I was listening to a lot of black metal and folk metal from Scandinavia around the same time I composed this piece. However this piece is not in the metal genre but is directly influenced by RPG games and the Norwegian band ULVER. This time, I utilized only sound effects and no loops at all. I incorporated sound effects such as my own labored breathing to convey being chased through the woods, horse neighs and hoof beats. All the melodic and percussive content that you are listening to is analogue signal straight from the EQUINOX workstation keyboard. I did not know anything about MIDI or sequencing at that time. A very unique glimpse into my developing compositional ability at the time (again, circa 2001 approx 20yrs old).
